approach to corporate governance. For example, in a recent study of
300+ companies by Sibson Consulting and Spencer Stuart, Harleysville was
the highest-ranked mid-sized company and second overall in the survey’s
governance transparency metric. In addition, according to Institutional
Shareholder Services (ISS), a leading provider of proxy voting and
corporate governance services, Harleysville Group outperformed nearly
99 percent of the companies in the Russell 3000 and 96 percent of the
companies in the insurance group based on ISS’ assessment of corporate
